Share a recipe
Forktastic gives you three ways to share an individual recipe:
- Share with family — to people in your family group. Free and instant.
- Share a public link — a Forktastic URL anyone can open. Recipient doesn’t need an account to view; they need one to save the recipe.
- Export as PDF — a one-page PDF you can text, email, or print.
Most people share via family. Public links are for sharing with friends outside your family group. PDFs are for printing or sending to someone who doesn’t use apps.
Share with family
- Open the recipe.
- Tap Share in the action bar.
- Tap Share to family.
- If you’re in multiple families, pick which one.
- Tap Send.
The recipe appears in the receiving members’ Shared with you section, and the share event shows up in the family activity feed. The recipe stays in your cookbook too — you’re not moving it, you’re giving the family a reference to it.
See Share cookbooks and recipes with family for more on family sharing.
Share a public link
Public links let anyone open the recipe in their browser, no account needed for viewing.
- Open the recipe → tap Share → Get public link.
- Forktastic generates a link like
forktastic.com/r/abc123. - Tap Copy or Share to… to send via text, email, WhatsApp, anywhere.
The link opens a read-only view of the recipe at forktastic.com. The recipient can:
- View ingredients, instructions, nutrition, photos
- Tap Save to my cookbook if they have a Forktastic account (or sign up to save)
- Tap Open in app if they have Forktastic installed
You can revoke a public link any time:
- Open the recipe → Share → Manage public link.
- Tap Revoke link.
After revoke, the link returns a 404. Anyone who already saved the recipe to their own account keeps their copy — that’s not affected by revoking the source link.
Export as PDF
- Open the recipe → tap Share → Save as PDF.
- Pick a layout style — Compact (one page), Detailed (one page with larger text), or Print-friendly (no background colors, ink-saving).
- Forktastic generates the PDF.
- Tap Save to keep it locally, or Share to send via your device’s share sheet.
This is different from a full PDF cookbook — that’s for exporting a whole cookbook of multiple recipes at once. The single-recipe PDF is for one recipe.
PDF generation is available on the free tier for individual recipes. Full cookbook PDFs require Pro.
Privacy notes
- Family shares are only visible to current members of your family. Removing a member revokes their access to the share.
- Public links are world-readable until you revoke them. Don’t share a public link to a recipe with personal notes — notes are not stripped from the public view.
- PDFs are a snapshot at the time of export. If you edit the recipe later, the PDF doesn’t update automatically; re-export to get the new version.
